Your Branch needs you!

London Freelance Branch still has a vacancy for a job-share Branch Secretary, to work together with Tom Davies. Tom was elected to the post as a job-share but is now flying solo and needs a colleague to share the workload.

The actual minute-taking during each meeting is done by a volunteer minute-taker: the Secretaries edit and circulate the official Branch minutes and follow up with matters arising. For more details of what the job entails, see here.

Volunteer minute-takers are needed for Branch meetings for the rest of the year, and for Branch meetings for 2011.

The Branch is offering a free one-day course in minute-taking at the National Centre for Voluntary Organisations, for members who are considering standing for Secretary (including as a job share), or who feel they might want to support the Secretary with occasional minute-taking during Branch meetings.

We expect that there will be a free two-day NUJ Training course for freelance activists and officers during 2011: watch this space. For other support available to prospective committee candidates, see here. If you're very new to LFB, you may prefer to come to a few meetings and see how it works before approaching the committee about standing.

The Branch Committee welcomes Mark Watts as new negotiations officer, working in a job-share together with existing negotiations officer Phil Sutcliffe.
