End of the World

IN THE aftermath of the News of the World closure, there will be a public meeting on Thursday 14 July in Central London. This will look at how the phone-hacking scandal effects public perception of journalism and opportunities for rebuilding union organisation at News International. (The then-imminent BSkyB bid was also to have been a topic under discussion as well, but events have since overtaken this.)

Speakers include NUJ Parliamentary Group leader John McDonnell MP; Tom Watson MP (active in raising Parliamentary questions on News Corp); Hacked Off co-founder Professor Brian Cathcart; Mediawise (media ethics pressure group) founder Mike Jempson; Irish Press Council member Martin Fitzpatrick; and NUJ General Secretary Michelle Stanistreet.

It's at Conway Hall, Hall, 25 Red Lion Square, London WC1R 4RL (nearest Tube Holborn). Kick-off is at 7pm. Space is limited, so please email campaigns@nuj.org.uk if you want to go.
