Interns update

A RECENT survey by Interns Anonymous of 647 interns found that half of these have already done at least two internships. More than eight out of ten respondents said their internships had gone on for more than a month, with 12 per cent of those surveyed saying they had recently finished an internship of six months or more.

And, as reported in the Guardian, government lawyers last year advised higher education minister David Willetts and junior minister for employment relations Ed Davey that internships have "become endemic" and that "legal colleagues take the view that most interns are likely to be workers and therefore entitled to the NMW (National Minimum Wage) and other worker rights."
