Press Complaints Change
The Press Complaints Commisison suddenly announced on 8 March that it is winding itself up - to be replaced with a temporary body, into which it hopes to draw Richard Desmond's Express group, which left the PCC.
The turbulence of political change is illustrated by the introduction to an invitation sent the same day by the Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol, to a meeting to discuss press regulation:
LORD Hunt, the chair of the Press Complaints Commission who believes the body need not be abolished and can be reformed, appears on a panel debating press regulation in Bristol next Friday.
How quickly things can change.
That meeting is at 7:30pm on Friday 16 March at the Arnolfini Gallery, 16 Narrow Quay Bristol, Avon BS1 4QA. Tickets cost £6.50 or £5.00 for concessions and NUJ members: inquiries to 0117 917 2300.
It is preceded by a showing at 5:30 of the documentary PAGE ONE - Inside the New York Times.
