Google Books not open yet

THE lawsuit brought by the US Writers Guild against Google for unauthorised distribution of up to 15 million books has been delayed again. In May Judge Denny Chin rejected a motion from Google calling for the case to be thrown out (a standard feature of US lawyers' warm-up and throat-clearing) and, in the alternative, for it to be "stayed"

Google is also appealing Chin's ruling that the case can proceed as a "class action" on behalf of all affected authors, not just the named plaintiffs.

Now on 17 September Google and the Guild have agreed a delay - not least because of illness on the Guild's legal team. Chin estimated the case would be delayed at least a year.
