New faces on LFB Committee

LONDON FREELANCE BRANCH welcomes new members to its Committee following elections at the Branch AGM in January.

Ann Kramer, who joins the LFB Committee as Equality Officer, is a freelance non-fiction writer, who's written more than 50 books, she's been in publishing "for more years than I care to count" and is active in Hastings Women's Voice. Other new faces on the Committee - all as "members at large" (without portfolio) - include Richenda Power, Francis Sedgemore and Elizabeth Ingrams. Tim Gopsill - a former LFB Chair back in the day and a former editor of the Journalist magazine - rejoins the Committee, also as a member without portfolio.

Richenda is a former editor of Osteopathy Today, a member of the Medical Journalists Association, and an Open University teacher of social science research methods. She has trained as an NUJ freelance learning adviser.

Elizabeth Ingrams is a journalist covering NGOs and an Open University researcher on environment and sustainability.

Francis Sedgemore rejoins LFB from the now defunct NUJ Lewisham Branch, where he was Chair. He is a science writer and science editor, and a space scientist who did work on the orbits for the European Space Agency's Rosetta mission. He was also part of the team that put together the LFB's 2012 New Ways to Make Journalism Pay conference.

Education journalist Geraldine Hackett, who has taken on some of the Branch's minute-taking duties during the past year, takes over as LFB Training Officer. Photographer Tony Rizzo remains on the Committee as a job-share negotiations officer with Phil Sutcliffe.

There is currently a vacancy for Branch Secretary. Current Vice-Chair Fiona O'Cleirigh has temporarily taken on secretarial duties, supported by former Secretary Tom Davies and by Branch members volunteering to take it in turns to take minutes of Branch meetings. Francis has indicated a willingness to stand as Branch Secretary (with secretarial support from Tom) at the February Branch gathering.

Your Branch still needs you

But we need your help to support the Branch Secretary - volunteer minute-takers are sought for Branch meetings for the rest of the year, to take minutes and pass these to the Secretary to be written up, signed off on and circulated. For members who expect to do this regularly, the Branch can offer free courses in minute-taking with the National Council for Voluntary Organisations.

The Chapel Liasion post on the Committee is also vacant.

Dave Rotchelle and Jenny Vaughan were re-elected as Chair and Treasurer respectively, as were the incumbent Freelance team – Mike Holderness and Matt Salusbury. Also re-elected to the Committee as "members at large" were Tom Davies, Janet Awe (@NUJ_LFB Twitter account co-moderator), Claire Colley (the Branch's delegate to CPBF) and Jake Ecclestone.

Peter Doye and Tim Gopsill were elected as auditors to scrutinise the Branch's annual accounts.

Our thanks to Kevin Cahill, who stood down after serving as interim Branch Secretary during 2013.

There will shortly be a complete, updated list of Branch Committee members, with contacts, here, with an explanation of who's supposed to do what here.
