Deal ends Newsquest South London strike

THE NUJ'S first protracted strike for a while, at Newsquest South London titles, ended in July with a deal that included a promise of a "living wage" for trainees.

However, the Newsquest group then announced staff cuts at its titles at Bournemouth and Oxford. Watch this space and the NUJ website for possible strike ballots for industrial action at these workplaces over redundancies: these would be dates on which you may wish to consider finding yourself suddenly unavailable for work there.

Going on strike and holding a picket outside a workplace may be about to get harder, with the Trade Union Bill, whose second reading in Parliament is due in the Autumn. See here for more.
