Journalism sustainability review
THE DEPARTMENT for Culture, Media and Sport have opened a call for evidence for the Cairncross Review of the sustainability of high-quality journalism in the UK. Evidence has to be in by 7 September. Details on how individuals can submit evidence are via the link above. The NUJ is expected to send in a submission: watch this space for any calls to contribute to the NUJ's submission.
Topics of interest for the Review include the role of "search engines" (plural, a reminder that other search engines are available, see, for example here and here.). Also within its remit are the effects of social media, digital advertising and "threats to financial stability."
While it's about journalism across all media, the Review will focus on "the press" in particular, with local and regional press being considered to be of "core social importance."
