First Steps in Freelancing course - on Zoom
THE NUJ's First Steps in Freelancing course is going ahead on Friday 1 May via Zoom. Please see the link below for further details.
This one-day online course is for those who are thinking about going freelance or have recently done so. It will provide you with practical advice on your first steps as a freelance. Learn what you need to do to get from your first freelance commission to your first payment, along with the first things you need to know about planning, money, tax, legal issues, copyright, licensing, pitching and negotiating.
It will also include advice on taking care of your health, setting up an office, IT, marketing, pensions - and ideas on how to develop your freelance business once it is up and running.
The tutor is SA Mathieson, who has worked as a freelance journalist full-time for more than 10 years. He has commissioned freelancers as an editor, including those on the Guardian's Healthcare Professionals section, and has run training courses for the NUJ, the Federation of Entertainment Unions, City Lit and corporate clients.
Once you have registered and paid - on the link below - you will be given instructions on joining it on Zoom.
The course will cost £40 for NUJ members, £30 for student members and £110 for non-members.
- Do please let the Branch know if there are particular training courses that we or the union centrally could organise online: see here to contact our training officer.
