Training alert

TRAINING opportunities continue for freelance journalists. NUJ Professional Training offers the Winning and Negotiating Freelance Work course, delivered virtually on Friday 15 May at £50 to NUJ members. Register here.

NUJ Training Wales normally offers face-to-face training subsided by Welsh Government, free to members resident in Wales. NUJ Training Wales's Rachel Howells told the Freelance that members outside Wales can for a £50 fee join their current virtual courses, with those who aren't resident in Wales limited to 10 per cent of places available. Their courses include Lockdown Skillbuilder: Become a Copywriter, which is on Wednesday 6 May. Details are here.

FEU Training, of which the NUJ is a part, has online courses on the business side of being a freelance which are FREE to NUJ members. For details, see here. The Centre for Investigative Journalism also offers free online training across the UK.

LFB's own recent training survey identified podcasting as the most popular subject for future courses. Its training officer is in discussions with a trainer on such a course. Probably a podcasting course does not lend itself to being delivered virtually, so watch this space for news on an LFB podcasting course after the current covid-19 lockdown ends.

The NUJ's webinar How to Stay Fit and Healthy at Home is now online. NUJ Training Scotland will have a list of online courses available via Zoom on its website from 11 May.
