AT LAST - the podcasting session that members asked for in the LFB training survey way before lockdown is happening. The one-day Zoom course, "Podcasting - An Introduction to Audio Recording and Editing for Journalists", will be delivered by journalist and audio professional Hamish Brown, who has successfully delivered this course for NUJ members in Scotland.
By the end of the day, learners - limited to ten per session - will have made their own podcast, received feedback and picked up many technical tips. Those already podcasting can grab the chance to beef up their skills. The sessions cost NUJ members £30 and are being held on Wednesday 4 November and Thursday 19 November, from 10:00am to 4:30pm. Go to www.wtraining.co.uk/lfb for course details, including the equipment needed.
All NUJ members can register and sign up to free courses run by the Federation of Entertainment Unions. On offer by Zoom this month are "Get Ready for Freelancing" on Thursday 22 October 10:00am to 4:15pm; and a "Stress Busting" webinar on Tuesday 20 October from 11:00am to 12:30. If you sign up and it turns out you can't make it, don't forget to cancel. Do either at www.feutraining.org.
It may also be worth checking whether there are places left - free to NUJ members - on "Going freelance" on Thursday 29 October. (Members of Manchester and Salford NUJ have priority booking this.)
If you have any ideas on what kind of training the branch should be delivering - or are up for a branch training officer job-share - do get in touch.
