Remembering Lyra McKee
NORTHERN IRELAND freelance journalist Lyra McKee was shot and killed while observing rioting in Derry, Northern Ireland on 18 April 2019.
Friends, relatives and journalist colleagues will be paying our respects on the day.
On 15 April her family delivered thousands of letters to residents of the Creggan district of the city, where she was killed. They ask for help to achieve justice for Lyra. On 7 April 2021, which would have been her 31st birthday, they launched justice4lyra.com.
Paul McIntyre from Ballymagowan Park in the city has been charged with her murder, which he denies. He was refused bail in Belfast High Court on 6 March 2020. Prosecutors say he was seen with the gunman and seen picking up spent cartridges.
All Derry City & Strabane District Council buildings will be lit up on the anniversary.
