The Trireme -
Johnston Press local papers
The Trireme is awarded for what one freelance called the "worst terms since I was last chained to the oars".
This month's Trireme nomination goes to Johnston Press local papers in the North-East of England. One freelance reported that these were paying photographers just £100 for a day's work - when there is any. That applies on weekdays and weekends, and it's the same amount as was reported in 2018. According to the Bank of England, that would buy the same basket of goods as £104.11 in 2020 - and we ask whether photographic inflation has been higher.
Worse, the papers offer only £50 for a "half day" - and as we observe there is no such thing as a "half day" if you're the one doing the travelling to and from the job and processing afterwards.
