Freelance to defend sources in court
CHRIS MULLIN, a freelance journalist and former Member of Parliament, is due in court at the Old Bailey on 24 and 25 February to defend his sources. West Midlands police want the court to order him to hand over material from his investigation, back in 1985 and 1986, into the Birmingham pub bombings in 1974.
"If West Midlands police had carried out a proper investigation after the bombings, instead of framing the first half-dozen people unlucky enough to fall into their hands, they might have caught the real perpetrators in the first place," Chris told the Guardian. Six people were falsely convicted in 1975 and released only in 1991. London Freelance Branch is contacting Chris.
