A memorial service for journalist Shireen Abu Akleh

Shireen Abu Akleh

Shireen Abu Akleh 1971-2022

THERE WILL BE a memorial service for Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh on 28 June 2022. Doors open at 11:00am for 11:30am.

The service, initiated by former Branch chair Pennie Quinton, will take place at the Journalists' Church - St Bride's, off Fleet Street.

Shireen was shot dead on 11 May on the outskirts of Jenin refugee camp in the occupied Palestinian territories. Among those paying tribute remotely will be members of her family and journalist and producer Ali Samoudi, who was shot in the back at the same time. He survived to report that they were both shot by Israeli forces.

Shireen's family are from a Palestinian Christian tradition. Father Shafiq Abouzayd of the Melkite Church in London will participate.

A motion to the June London Freelance Branch meeting asks the Branch to assist with the costs.

If you plan to attend please RSVP to shireen@londonfreelance.org
